The Kokuzen are a culture of ancient machine people known for their ingenuity and skill in water management. They are bipedal and stand about six feet tall, with a sleek and streamlined body design that enables them to move swiftly and efficiently. Their bodies are made of a combination of metals and stones, and they are notable for their aquamarine coloration, which is believed to be a result of a special coating that helps to protect them from water damage.
The Kokuzen are primarily found in regions close to bodies of water, including rivers, lakes, and oceans. They have been observed living in both coastal and inland areas, and are known for building their homes and settlements near bodies of water. Their mastery of water management has allowed them to thrive in areas where other machine people might struggle, and they have been able to create complex aqueduct systems that transport water over great distances.
The kokuzen people are rumoured to have built many underwater cities, most of which remain a mystery to most outsiders and even many kokuzen themselves. The location and quantity of these cities are unknown, and they are said to be filled with many wondrous sights, such as stylised carved columns and dome-like structures that trap and recycle the air.
The Kokuzen are a deeply spiritual culture, with a strong connection to water and its power. They believe that water is a source of life and renewal, and they have developed a complex system of rituals and ceremonies to honor and celebrate it. They are also skilled engineers and builders, with a particular focus on water management. They are known for building aqueducts, bath houses and fountains, and they have a deep understanding of how to keep water mineralised, flowing and fresh. The kokuzen's affinity for water extends even to their architecture, as they have mastered the art of building complex bridges, lake towns and underwater cities that are both functional and beautiful.
The Kokuzen people have a close relationship with the Taaru and many other geological creatures in their environment. They are know for sharing a mutual respect and admiration with the whale-like creatures, the Naarion related to the Taaru, often seen swimming together in the rivers and lakes. Additionally, they have a famously deep connection with the large water serpents the Nami Draioch that are feared by other machine people. The Kokuzen people hold these creatures in high regard and have learned much from their ancient wisdom. The Kokuzen hold several annual celebration days commemorating breakthroughs in communication and broadly celebrating the relationship between the Kokuzen people and the other creatures they share their world with.
